Launch of new TVET policy
Dear Members,
Greetings From PSFU.
In 2019, Uganda launched a comprehensive TVET Policy to guide the reform and development of the sector. The policy aims to Improve the quality and relevance of TVET programs as well as Enhance the governance and management of TVET institutions. Previously these institutions were under BTVET before the TVET Policy was introduced. For implementation of this policy , all TVET institutions are required to register for new licenses offered if an institution meets the statutory requirements. However, most of these institutions have not yet registered and are still operating on the BTVET license due to the failure of their institutions to meet the registration requirements.
Recently 0n Friday, 11/ October 2024, the government announced the closure of about 550 vocational schools for failure to meet the statutory registration requirements. The affected institutions were given up to 30th December 2024 or else they lose their examination centres.
It's against this background that PSFU has organized a sector meeting to consult members on the above issue to inform a private sector position for advocacy. The meeting will be held virtually on Thursday, 17th October 2024 from 11:30 -1:00pm.
